Rosa’s Role

This was posted about a year and a half after I got hung up on the same question in my EP2 notes.

I still don’t quite understand exactly how much Rosa was aware of in EP2. Spoilers etc

This makes it seem like she’s assuming Shannon is still alive, and is trying to keep Battler from examining her too closely. Back in Jessica’s room she very blatantly ‘confirms’ Genji and Shannon had an alibi because they were chatting with Kinzo (who everyone knows is dead) so it’s pretty clear that she must at least know Shannon and Genji are the culprits, and thus you’d think she knows Shannon is the ‘Beatrice’ who everyone met in the chapel the night before. I still can’t tell what she knows about Kanon, because some of her actions make it seem like she knows (and that pinning the blame on someone who isn’t there will keep everyone’s eyes off the real culprits, or something) but other times it seems like she’s legitimately paranoid that he might be out there and she’s not safe unless she has all the master keys.

And after the incident in Jessica’s room she definitely exits Accomplice Mode and starts legitimately distrusting and shoving the servants away (though I can’t exactly blame her for not having blind faith in someone who says ‘hey kid I’ll give you this gold if you let me kill your family’). She gets more and more paranoid as EP2 goes on, and by the end when she and Maria go to the chapel to grab the ingots she calls out for ‘Beatrice’ to answer her. So, that makes it seem like she thinks ‘Beatrice’ is still alive, and also like ‘hey I kept up my end of the bargain so where’s my fucking 10 tons of gold’. And then she and Maria are last seen fleeing from ‘something’ (most likely she knows about the bomb).

Just, she flip-flops so much between seemingly collaborating with the servants and then being vehemently against them in what doesn’t seem like part of the act (compare her behavior in Jessica’s room to how she acts later), and sometimes seemingly knowing Beatrice = Shannon = maybe Kanon and other times seeming like Beatrice = 19th person. Even if I can make sense of most of EP2 with future knowledge, Rosa is still that wild card that throws me for a loop because I can’t firmly nail down WHY she does some of the things she does.
